You're Welcome Skiing. Your Friend, Snowboarding

Once again snowboarding has been the catalyst for popularity for skiing*.  Skiing was taking a shit in the 80′s till punk snowboarders came along and injected some excitement.  Then freestyle skiing went ape-shit in the mid 90′s copying snowboarding.  Now snowboarding has paved the way for a new skiing Olympic event–Halfpipe.

Last week, the International Ski Federation unanimously approved support of Skiing Halfipe in the Olympics.  All that needs to go down now is the International Olympic Committee’s formal approval.  I predict they will approve Men and Womens Skiing Halfpipe.  They’d be $tupid not too.

Honestly, i’d rather watch skier halfpipe than shred halfipipe (assuming it actually gets air time).  One thing’s for sure–skiiers blow the doors off snowboarders with height and whirly-spins even if they do weird grabs.  And holy shit do they wreck!  Jesus it looks bad…

I wonder if Skiing will develop some kooked out halfpipe monkey like snowboarding has.  I sure hope so.

*Disclaimer: To all my skiier friends.  Thank you for having a sense of humor and not punching me in the stomach next time you see me in a bar.

P.S.  The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia.  Sochi is located in southern Russia, on the Black Sea. Sochi sits at about the same latitude as Jackson Hole.  Hopefully global warming doesn’t kick them in their Russian nuts.  Here’s some interesting climate info on wikipedia.
