It seem like the Seaside locals are getting pissy again. This time there’s footage of it!
Check out the video below from the KGW Portland site. Be sure to check out the crazy comments at the bottom. Entertaining for sure.
I’ve never actually surfed here…but i’ve heard of the bs that goes down. I’ve also heard people say that the locals at Westport are worse than anywhere they’ve been.
I’ve always wanted to surf this spot…i love me some back handed waves. But the last thing i want to deal with is angry locals. I’m bad at talking smack and i don’t want to go to jail. That and the water is too cold in Oregon. All yours…

HAHA! My comments were removed from the KGW.com site. What's so bad about this-
I came up with a great idea – I'm sponsoring a meet and greet at the Tulley's in downtown Portland tonight. I just figured it would be great to get everyone together who's willing to head out to Seaside this weekend and "defend the coastline"
from these local surfers. It may be a good idea to sit down and work out logistics like will Michael G. be the only one packing heat. Maybe sit down and compare each others tax returns to see who actually owns more of the coast and gets the first swing at these surfer assholes.
I'll call the KGW station manager and see if we can get some coverage too. We kinda owe them first dibs on covering the enormous butt whomping that's going to go down when these losers try and ask us to "respect their beach".
Let's really do this! I mean let's actually get up from behind our keyboards and do something for once. I'm so tired of having to reminisce about my past career as a Tae Bo champion. It's about time I get off my butt and do something.
I tried leaving a few more comments and no luck.

Haha, gotta love seaside on the news! You oregonians dont want anyone surfin your turf, yet you feel its okay to come up to washington and get some waves?! Fuck you guys!! Stay down there!!
First of all, there are very few locals, if any. The "locals" at westport live in aberdeen, so theyre not technically any more "local," then the day trippersfrom B.C or the Bellevue brigade. The surfers that actually live in westport arent from there, they moved there, just like the majority of the "transplants" down in Cali. As for the seaside "locals," more transplants, thinking they have a secret spot that needs to be regulated. But if its on wannasurf, then it aint no secret, haha!! Talk all the crap ya want, if youre a jerk, i dont have a problem droppin in on you and crushing your wave. I'll act like a newb, and maybe go grab my 8' funboard i bought in bellevue and play dumb:)
Tao Bo is for fags.
douche bags, try to tell sman what to do and your going to end up in fisticuffs, I film what I want! wonder if a tazer goes through the spiderman suit, that would be a good movie segment.. spiderman floppin around on the rocks like a retarded seal
So what do you have to do to be local? Live in the town? Live in the state? And for how long? A summer/fall? 2-5 years? Or in the case of surf, do you just have to show up and surf it well? I've always wondered what it takes to be "local." Can someone please help me?
There's no golden rule to the definition of being a local, but it's basically a popularity contest. You have to be recognizable to the folks who surf a spot. In order to be recognizable you either need to be a famous surfer or you need to surf there more than once a week.
Famous, or once a week, but no golden rule? I'm going to disagree with your reasoning. I don't think popularity has anything to do with it. Popularity is not what I'm thinking about when I paddle out. Respect from other surfers is nice, but I could care less if you like me or not. Once a week…where'd you come up with that? You live there- you are local. You don't live there- you are a visitor. Visitors can receive equal, sometimes more, or less, respect than locals.
That and not taking pictures of every beach you surf at. Oh snap, you do that don't you??
I think it can takes years of recognition and skill to be local out here…not to mention a ZIP (or history of living there for 20+ years), along with respect to the underlying rules most surfer obide by. Seek and yee shall find. Take pictures and blast them on sites and yee shall be not liked.
That being said…you appear to tread lightly on the pics. But if you don't care about popularity….then why post the pics in the first place???? I'd argue the being seen is very important to you…at least on the web.
S-o
Your argument really doesn't make much sense. I like to take pics and I enjoy sharing them with friends. If someone doesn't like what I'm doing with my pics…I don't give a shit. I'm not trying to win a popularity contest, and if being seen was important to me I'm not trying real hard, or doing a good job of it. Maybe I should post pics on wannasurf, magicseaweed, oregon surf forums…
Yeah – that would be much more worse and hella gay.
Not to sound too dorky or critical, but you guys spelled livelihood wrong.
^he was spelling it the way the 7th grade dropout locs do
