Holy shit blood makes me sic. There’s a lot of it in The Cove. Dolphins getting hacked up–total horror movie style.
A few friends and i checked out The Cove at the Egyptian the other day. We all rolled in with sodas and were yappin it up annoying everyone around us–right through the previews and into the first couple minutes of the flick. Then the movie got gnarly, and we shut up.
The Cove documents a small coastal city in Japan who’s “fishing” industry is all kinds of messed up. The village of Taiji comes complete with a extremely twisted story of governmental cover up, dolphin killing, mercury poisoning, and a sweet dolphin museum.
Richard O’Barry, the guy who trained the dolphins in the TV show Flipper, along with a small group of other activists filmed this movie, guerrilla style. Night vision, camo, face paint, ellusive tactics n shit. They risked their lives, risked jail time, got pushed around, hasseled and yelled at in a language they couldn’t understand. If you happen to see the guy below on the street, punch him. Total dick.
