Last Memorial Day weekend i surfed down in OR. The spot we were at was arguably the most beginner friendly spot in the PacNW. And although it does get really fun…a sunny summer-ish weekend with small waves equates to excessively beginner friendly.
Nothing wrong with beginners…we were all there at one point. The line up was pretty crowded, which i was expecting to see. What i wasn’t expecting to see was a surf lesson go down.
The guy on this board was giving lessons.

Here’s a clip of the surf lesson in action.

that’s Todd, proprietor of the 99-strip shop WaveHounds… he’s down there many/most Summer weekends. dude carries a healthy portion of surf stoke AND unique character 4sure. IMHO a beginner with some instruction, is better than those jumping in without a clue?
Healthy portion of surf stoke for sure. It’s interesting that you/I never see surf lessons going down at Westport. Maybe Todd could give lessons there and some that surf stoke would rub off.
Super nice guy. His shop is stacked with gear too. Def worth a check if you’re heading southbound 99.
Can I get one of those deck pads at his shop too?
ummmm…… you see surf lessons at the port all the time. in fact, every weekend you can see them going down. Hell, Barry gives them without even getting in the water.
Surfing, so easy even a cave man can do it.
Shorties rules.
this guy with the peanut softtop board was in the cold water classic. i think i also saw a booth with some of them hanging around on display. before you know it, you all will be riding one.

Be careful. Talk to him to long and YOU yes YOU will end up on a GSI board.
5 weeks and many pop-ups later, I would like a second – chance video now please. I think I could establish that I am de-fucked
.
nice work kayes8! keep it up. surfing just gets scarier and hurts more as you get better. i think.
stay safe.
