There hasn’t been any legit swell in a good 6 weeks. By legit i mean something i have the ability to surf. Waist high doesn’t count. Here’s a few shots of some friends from last weekend surfing waist high waves.
[nggallery id=33]
I was poking around in my pictures the other day and came across these two shots. These were taken back when there was swell. Don’t know who this is but he was lighting up this wave. Seeing someone rip apart a wave in person is so rad. Especially when it’s right in your face. These are two shots in a sequence.
Man, i can’t wait till more of this heads our way.

fiend on…
Back again eh. This time for ye ole Bum Bum Fest! Didnt even bother…. Havent in weeks really. It’s like trying to fuck a hole in the wall.
This flat spell does suck though….. But where were you all winter? Guess were paying for it now.
Well bout 3 1/2 months till fall. Book a ticket to get some somewhere else. My plan anyway.
oh, i was out all winter. trusit.
mexico is calling me now though…
Waist high or Double Overhead, you should still be able to pull yourself into the pocket and rip.
Although those pics of Shorty’s look like ass – so I hear you on that. We needs some power…..
Do any of you have any suggestions for spots to hit up along the northern California coast? Driving there in a couple of weeks….
S-O
never been to norcal for surf. always wanted to though.
how far NorCal? Sonoma, Mendo, where? Similar to searching PNW, just more big fish…http://northerncaliforniasurfing.com/
Thanks for the link.
Gonna go all the way to Santa Cruz, but I’ll be stopping in Mendo and anywhere I see waves for that matter.
Should be tight.
@Sam O. Lived down there for many years. Snowone’s right, north of the Gate is verry simular to the PNW cold fickle and sharky. Mendo & can be windy as fuk this time of year. That said find a little glass, some wind swell, or even better luck into a south big enough to get around Point Conception and there are mucho rewards to be had. Or if there’s any south in the water small or large B line is to SC and surf your brians out with the masses.
one thing is for sure… it’s hard to wing it between surf spots in central / north cal if you are planning on camping. make sure you make reservations way, way, way in advance. California State Parks fill-up faster than one of oneshot’s hookers.
was just making some reservations for la push and was trying to find out the current RV park prices… ran across this web site:
http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/Washington/La_Push.html
Pretty funny reviews. e.g.
“I can verify the previous reviewer’s comments. The beach area was very nice. Sad to say with their “no rules” for this park it was not a pleasure at all to stay here. There was a large contingent of surfer people (beach bums) who were for the most part collectively vulgar, drunk and incredibly loud. The people working at check-in convenience store were the most rude indiviuals “don’t like it then leave” I have come across in all my stays at RV parks. If you are a party person than this place is definately for you. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.”
That person gave it one star… it is funny because those are the exact same reasons I give la push 5 stars
bla ha ha! no shit….
Keep La Push raw.
Thanks for the advice. I’ll be camping wherever I can hide with my car – but I may want to set a couple of rez’s in case……
So all this talk of La Push and Shorites becons a question I have. I’ve surfed just about every spot up there in the Evergreen, but Ive never surfed La Push. I’ve surfed Shorties more than I’d like to admit, granted the place does have its moments. That said what spot is better La Push or Shorites?
That’s a good question….
I don’t know that i’ve surfed either enough to give a legit compare. But i’ll drop my 2pennys.
I’m bigger fan of the latter……not to say both don’t have their days.
As in LP
well they both face sw, one has no protection from n winds, but one does tend to have more variety of wave shapes and does have protection from direct s winds, the other gets far more zooed out, but on some occasions so does the other. overall, both have consistent swell, are decent quite often and from time to time really turn on.
