There’s a surf contest this weekend in Westport. The 8th annual 2009 Clean Water Classic will kick off this Saturday the 16th of May. The contest will take place at West Haven State Park, aka the Jetty. There are 9 divisions based on age and/or equipment (shortboard, shortboard, SUP). There is a cost associated with the entry fee but it goes to the the various Pacific NW chapters of Surfrider.
Last years contest brought out 150 competitors and 1000 spectators. This years event is sure to bring even more. Or maybe just the same amount.

The contest has a bunch of sponsors – The Surf Shop, Steepwater Surf Shop, Surfrider, GSI, Analog, Globe, Sticky Bumps, and a few others. dont forget to mention that headquarters this year will be at the chateau, which aint too bad of a place to stay cause they got a hot tub, indoor pool and not so bad continental breakfast, but one of the managers is a crab and the price you pay sucks cause the walls are paper thin and some of the rooms have lumpy mattresses. There are more worth while places to stay in westport. I dont recommend the chateau. I wonder if bonga perkins will be there this year?
i always stay at the Kila Hana if im lucky enough to crash in Westport for a night.
i wonder if they let the contest go down in the corner by the jetty.

i was gonna say, kila hana is a more worth while place to stay in so many ways.
well it looks like at least there wont be much wind in the morning.
why would they hold the contest in the corner by the jetty? unless there is a significance difference in swell or the judges move down or competitors risk not being seen, there just gonna do the same ol run em straight out front.
if they’re serious about it being the only pro/am event in the region then they need to move the contest to winter or fall.
