If you Surf, you can Snowboard. If you Snowboard you can Surf?

Snowboarding is easy right?  It’s not like skateboarding where quick, tiny, precise movements run the show.  Or surfing where you’ve got consistently changing conditions, drowning, sharks, locals, and your wimpy arms keeping you from getting better. Snowboarding generally is big, sloppy, unprecise movements, and a chairlift handling all the physical effort.  There’s a lot of room for error.

Coordination is coordination.  Balance is balance. Sure you can practice and improve both. But some people have more than others.  Still, it’s much easier to reach an advanced-intermediate level on a snowboard relative to a skateboard or surfboard (wakeboards do not and will never count–sorry, i don’t make the rulz).

I have a few friends from Maui.  Ripping surfers–grew up there and everything.  They’ve come over to visit a few times and are always hyped to go snowboarding.  One of em, never been on snow before, 50-50ing rails day 1.  Other ones, riding Alpy BC like nothing.  Jumping, dropping n shite.  The basically reached an intermediate level day 1.  I was kinda offended.

Check out this video of Clay Marzo (from Maui) and Travis Rice as snowboard instructor. http://surf.transworld.net/2009/02/04/is-clay-marzo-the-worst-snowboarder-in-the-world/

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
