Red Mountain Canada – New Years 2009

Myself and a few friends went up to Red Mountain BC for the New Years weekend.  The drive there was gnar.  Snow started in North Bend and didn’t end.  At all.  The 6ish hour drive to Red Mountain took quite a bit longer than expected. We arrived on day one for a half-day session.  No one there and 20cm of new!  It was colder n isht too.  They hadn’t gotten much snow prior so we were hitting a lot of rocks.  On the last day we hiked Mt. Roberts.  Super easy ‘backcountry’ hike.  Look for it if you go. The mountain itself is sick.  The terrain is steep–there isn’t much beginner terrain at all.  The fall line is consistent–no mega traverses.  The tree runs are insane too–well spread out and de-limbed. If you’re willing to put in the drive time, Red will reward you with sick terrain, great snow and best of all, no lift lines. Here’s some Mountain Statistics:

  • Vertical Drop: 2919 ft
  • Base Elevation: 3,888 ft
  • Top Elevation: 6807 ft
  • Average Snowfall:  300 in
  • Skiable Terrain: 1,685 acres
  • Lift Capacity: 7,100 per hour
  • Terrain: 15% beginner, 40% intermediate, 45% advanced/expert
  • # of Runs: 87 marked runs
  • Lifts: 1 quad, 2 triples, 1 double, 1 t-bar, 1 Carpet
