I don’t know about you, but i get murdered by head high waves. Much bigger and i think twice about paddling for waves.
Every winter down in Cali a bunch of nutzos get together for the Mavericks Surf Contest®. 50 foot waves that actually do murder people.
There’s monster swell hitting HI right now and it’s en route to NorCal.

Here’s some science from NOAA on why Mavericks is such a big wave. Basically there’s deep water that transitions to really abrupt reef. And a sea monster. http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/news/press/2007/pr041607_items.html
