Loop the Olys

Last Saturday i decided to roll the dice on a 5am wake up and a 4 hour power drive.  I arrived to totally blown out conditions.  Harsh.  The wind was so strong on the Strait that it was actually creating East swell.  There were rights where there should’a been lefts.  Almost surfable too.   That was Plan A.

Plan B

Hour detour to the south.  La Mush.  Showed up to sun, slight offshore, super clean, peeling waves.  Some of the best looking waves i’ve ever seen there.  No one in the water too.  Solo mission.  Woo-hoo!  I suited up, and walked out on the beach surfboard in hand to the [apparent] amazement of the other people on the beach.   Cameras came out too.  Im pretty sure they weren’t trying to capture epic surf shots, but rather the impending shite-show.  After about an hour and 4 attempts i pulled the plug.  La Push won.  On my best attempt i made it to about 50 feet from the outside–then, clean up set.  Done.

A boat would’ve been nice.

Plan C

I after La Push sent me packing, i b-lined it down to Westport to meet up with a few friends.  I got there about 2 hours before sunset, suited up and paddled out at the Jetty.  There was only a handful of guys out at that point so the lineup at the corner was chill.  Waves were large.  Heavy offshore wind made the faces extra bumpy.  Zipping down the line was like driving 50mph down some pothole laden road.  ‘Bout got bounced off every time.  Got four super fun, fast, un-challenged rides.  That made the 7-or-so hours i drove worth it.

Then i played Big Buck Hunter at the Pine Tree.
