2008 Memorial Day Weekend Surf

The Washington coast is rad. We pretty much always have swell. Even when Cali is dead flat all summer there will be size up here. Usually…

Last Memorial Day weekend i headed out to the coast to meet up with these dudes. We bumped into a few of the guys at spot #1 and the first thing i did when i got out of the car was shoot my friend Travis in the face with one of my Airsoft guns (Im still awaiting clever retaliation for that one). Surf spot #1 was surprisingly fun for how small it was and given the size of my board and the fact that i forgot how to paddle. The water was crystal clear and the tide was probably the lowest i’ve ever seen it.

We stocked up on beer and posted up at Hobuck that Friday night. The weather was nice that evening and we got in a super fun session at dusk. The sunset was amazing–way more amazing than the waves. A few of my buddies were smart and brought long boards and were really the only ones catching legit waves. A bigger board would’ve come in really handy.

The next morning, after the marine layer lifted, the sun fortified stoke level was brought back down by the little to no swell coming in. Again, people with longer boards were catching waves. A few of us decided to go hang out at a different beach, check out the tide pools and shoot stuff. It’s weird what some people end up doing when there’s no swell. Here’s an example:

Sunday we got up, packed our stuff and headed home. That evening a bunch of us all ended up at Moe Bar, and drank a shit ton of Rainier. That explains how riding Alpental the next morning/Monday came about.

Monday Alpental Session recap coming soon…
